Double Page Spread

A double page spread is a poster style page spread across two pages, it contains usually, one main image and either an interview or information linking in with the main images. All the double page spreads i have analysed have had light backgrounds and the same layout as i have choose to use, this gives it a good professional layout. The main image for my double page spread is either going to be a image of a person standing there with a guitar or without, or some form of musical instrument. Like the other two layouts this has been done on Microsoft Publisher and print screens to hear.

Front cover layout mock ups

I have done these two because i believe this will be the best way to get a final idea of what images go where, and where about the masthead, subheading, and other headings go. I got these two layouts from analysing other contents pages and front covers out of other magazines and then using the computer programme Microsoft Publisher made my own layouts done in a similar way. I then print screened the two layouts and pasted onto a paint document, then saved as a JPEG and uploaded onto hear. All the images used will be photos i have taken and uploaded myself.

Target Audience + Planning

The target audience will be between the ages of 17 and 30, this is because i believe that people are more likely to buy magazines at this age boundary. The reasons for this are things such as this age group are more likely be earning, there for are more likely to buy this magazine. Also the content of the magazine is more likely to appeal to this age category and also is more of a mature content.

i am going to add details such as bar codes, dates of each issue and prices on the front cover, i am going to do this because it looks more professional and is important to have added information like this. i am adding a price because every magazine i have come across has a price on the front cover, i believe this is a good marketing approach. I will not make it to expensive, i will price it at about 2 pounds. Making My front cover look as well done and professional as possible.

The media language within the magazine will be appealing, information giving, or an interview. This is because i find that within most music magazines, the media language is to me one of these.

The Images i am going to collect are going to be a number of different shots, this is important because it shows that time and effort has been put in to make it look as a good as possible. For the front cover, i am going to use one main image and a few smaller images around. The contents page is going to list the contents and then have some smaller images linking in with the content of the magazine. And then on the double page spread i am going to use one main image, just like the spreads of have researched, and then writing either to the left or right of the image.

Planning

Now i have done my research and analysis of front covers, contents pages and double page spreads, i have to now plan and get together ideas on what I'm going to use for my magazine. This will start with:
-Computer programmes
-Fonts
-Images and types of shots
-Colours
-Slogans and headlines
-Mastheads
-Subheadings
-Layouts

These are just some of the things that i will have to take in to account to get the best quality and effect as passable.

Computer Programmes
The programmes I'm going to use for my task will have be used to get the best outcome possible. these will be programmes such as:
-Photo Shop
-Microsoft Publisher
-Microsoft Word
-Paint

I will use photo shop for image editing and background editing, Publisher for double page spread layout and word to get the best font possible.

First of all i am going to design the layouts using boxes, i am going to label each box to show what goes where, this will then give me a template on where i put things such as images. This will be done on the computer.

Double page spread

This is a double page spread out of a different music magazine, this is a completely different lay out in comparison to the other two i have analysed. For example, the main image is towards the left side of the double page spread and not the right, and the writing is on the right hand side and not the left. This contents page has a kind of subheading in the form of a question, this gives the reader something to think about and will make this person read whats within this double page spread. The main image is of a group called the Black Eyed Peas, this is not stated but is obvious because the reader of this magazine will of probably heard of them and there for there is no need for there name to be used. Compared to the other two spreads i have analysed, this has a lot more writing, properly linking the main image with whats been written. The main image has been edited, this will have been done through a computer programme such as photo shop. The main person within this band has not been lightened where as the 3 behind him have been lightened to make the main group member stand out. This could be showing the reader that the writing could be on the whole more to do with him then the other members, also the subheading could be linking it all 3 aspects together, the main image the writing and the subheading. The background on the layout is the same shade as the other 2, Evan tho its a different magazine company that's made this one, its of a lighter shade giving me an idea about what i can use for my design.

Double Page Spread.

This again is a double page spread of a band out of Q magazine. This layout is very similar to the other double page spread in the way its laid out and produced. the image(the band) is situated to the right and the writing to the left, this could be that people read from left to right and are more likely to read it because if the way its been laid out. The fact that this a musical group of people is backed up by the fact that each person on this main image is holding some form of musical instrument. There is also another similarity between the two spreads i have analysed and commented on, that the fact that Lady Gaga had only her actual arms and head showing her body and legs where done as a manikin, these people have the same effect, the legs could be viewed as representation due to the possibility of them being replaced as music stands. The background colour is the same idea as the other spread, its a plain white background but this time the people on this page have a brighter verity of clothing. This makes them stand out the the audience so they can be more easily recognised.

double page spread

This is a double page spread found in Q magazine, this has a variation of aspects with this page. This spread is obviously trying to get across to the audience that its about Lady Gaga, this is done with the whole spread covered with one main image of her but not her whole body, this image has been edited to have her face and arms and then a model style manikin as the main body. The birds behind the main image are there to maybe represent this artist, there are to rows of birds, the top row is there birds wings spread, and the bottom row with the wings down, this could be another form of representation to represent Lady Gaga as a person or artist. the fonts and colours used within this double page spread are vary plain and simple. there are a verity of of different colours of blues and purples making everything blend together as an image.

There are a few paragraphs on the left page to link in the image with the story, this is in small black font, its away from the main image to maybe get the reader to have a look of the whole page to make the reader read this article.

Contents

I have found a contents page in Q magazine, it is very different compared to other contents pages, it has one large image of a rock and roll artist The image takes up 95% of the page and is a low angle shot to show this artist is domineering and powerfull and is in black and white not colour. The main masthead is in a read font with the date in black font next to it in the same size font. At the bottom it has the subheading, "The rolling Stones" in white font and a page number next to it, this shows what is on page 76. There is another heading labeled "Features" and underneath that a number of headings with page numbers next to each different heading. This is a good to use beacuse it shows the reader where abouts each story is in the magazine.

This is another RnB music magazine, the genre for this magazine is represented through a world wide RnB star Eminem. The way this magazine is represented is important because it gives an idea into what kind of magazine, like all the other magazines i have analysed there has been some kind of representation towards the institution. There other ways that this magazines genre is represented. There are other big RnB stars names placed next to the main image of Eminem. RnB fans will see the name and instantly know what this magazine is about and what it will contain. Once again the masthead is slightly covered by the main image and gives me the impression that its a well know magazine through the way it has been done like this. There are a number of headings doted around the main images, the main subheading being to do with the main image(Eminem).
Most the magazines i have look at have said or done something to get the audience involved with the magazine, this gives the magazines a sense of belonging and involvement. Like this institutions other magazines there are limited colours, the masthead is half black and half red, this links in with the other subheadings a headings, some are red and some are black. As far as i can see there is no price probably meaning its on the back page meaning it could be expensive.
